Excerpt from the Foreword: This volume is a much-awaited continuation of the Philippine Historical Calendar, which covered the years 1521 to 1969, conceived by the National Historical Commission, presently the National Historical Institute, back in 1966. Brief information about historical events first appeared in The Manila Times on the first day of April in 1968 bearing the title "Historical Calendar." That small space in the national daily produced a strong impact as readers started to collect clippings. Radio stations also picked up the idea and, using this broadcast the historical event for the day. The media became an important partner in the promotion of historical consciousness... ...This volume is a product of the Research and Publication Division: Augusto V. de Viana, Carminda R. Arevalo, Peter Jaynul V. Uckung, Paulita C. Avestruz, Felipe D. Romanillos, Jolita Isobel C. Atienza, Cielito G. Reyno, Christine D. Dulnuan and Diana A.
